XLPE or Cross-linked polyethylene is a thermoset insulation material. Crosslinking polymers is a process which changes the molecular structure of the polymer chains so that they are more tightly bound together and this crosslinking is done either by chemical means or physical means. Physical crosslinking involves subjecting the polymer to a high energy source such as high-energy electron or microwave radiation.

Cross-linked polyethylene insulation is made by chemical or physical methods to change the polyethylene molecule from linear molecular structure to three-dimensional network structure, from thermoplastic material to thermosetting material, and to increase the working temperature from 70℃ to 90℃, which significantly improves the material performance.
