The Veins of our Buildings : Wires

The Veins of our Buildings : Wires

When it comes to any residential or commercial building, the network of cabling and wiring function as the veins of the buildings to deliver power to electrical units- lighting, air-cooling, data-storage, communication, security and more.

we supply a comprehensive range of high-quality building and grounding wires designed to meet the safety requirements of the construction industry. Some of the popular building wires installed on-site are:

PVC

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) wires are widely used due to their excellent properties such as durability, robustness, heat and water resistance. PVC is also resistant to a wide range of chemicals including oils, acids, alkalis, and even to abrasion. Apart from this, they are cost-effective and have a long service life. Their only drawback is during a fire their halogen content produces dense smoke.

LSZH

Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) wires are used in applications where smoke emission and toxic fumes could pose a risk to human health and equipment safety in the event of a fire. Made up of zero-halogen and flame retardant compounds LSZH is a safer choice over PVC. They are ideal for public areas like hotels, malls, hospitals and airports where mass evacuations are critical during a fire. They are often used in poorly ventilated environments such as tunnels and underground transport networks.

MGT

Mica Glass Tape (MGT) fire resistant wires comply with the BS 7846 standard with special grade mica tape wrapping over the conductor. Mica as a mineral retains its insulation property even in extreme fire temperatures of upto 950°C. When subjected to fire, Mica tape forms a tube providing a barrier to insulate the conductor and prevent short circuit. They are used to supply power to firefighting equipment (sprinkler pumps, smoke extractors), in safety circuits (fire detection/alarm systems) and where circuit integrity is critical under fire conditions (life-saving equipment in hospitals).

60227 IEC 03 STANDARD 300/500V BV-90 H05V-U NYA SOLID COPPER BUILDING WIRE

PLC

Panel control wiring (PLC) are used for wiring switchboards, control panels and various electrical enclosures. These highly flexible wires are designed with finely stranded conductors for easy connection. The halogen-free and fire-retardant insulation provides optimum safety for people and assets against all risks of fire.

THHN/THWN

Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon coated (THHN) wires are used for connecting branch circuits and appliances, while Thermoplastic Heat- Water-resistant nylon-coated variant are designed to operate in wet locations. These single conductor wires come in stranded or solid conductors and are covered in a PVC thermoplastic with a nylon jacket. As a matter of caution, these wires should never be handled when circuits are on. They are commonly used for lighting, motor and auxiliary equipment connection found in basements, garages and within the building walls.

The letters indicate specific properties:
T: Thermoplastic
H: HH means highly heat-resistant
W: Rated for wet locations
N: Nylon-coated protection

Color-coded sheathings identify circuit wire functions:
Hot : Black, red
Neutral: White, Grey
Ground : Green, yellow green
